It is the most iconic Gothic monument in Milan, famous everywhere, and the second tallest church in the world. It was built in 1386 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti. The largest spire is from the 18th century, and the Madonna was raised on it. It was completed in 1813 at the request of Napoleon, who wanted to be crowned king of Italy there. Inside is the famous San Bartolommeo Scorticato, a sculpture by Marco D’Agrate.
