It’s the lyrical temple. Commissioned by Queen Maria Teresa of Austria, it was founded in 1776 and was designed by Giuseppe Piermarini, on of the most famous architects of the time. The stage of La Scala has seen performances by the greatest singers in history, such as Maria Callas, Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Josè Carreras and Renata Tebaldi and the most famous orchestral conductors in the world, from Riccardo Muti to Zubin Metha. Teatro alla Scala underwent a major renovation from 2002-2004.
