It is probably the most famous group in the Prealpi Lombardy, and with its characteristic shape, it dominates the city of Lecco. Inside are the northern Grigna, called “Grignone” (2409 meters) and the Grigna meridionale or “Grignetta” (2111 meters). The name seems to come from the Germanic “gries”, meaning “sand”; in fact the rock of the complex is very friable, but so many hypotheses have been made. It is reachable both by Mandello Del Lario and Valsassina.
