National Falconry Conference and Gathering

27/10/2017 - 29/10/2017

In all of southern Italy, Frederick II of Swabia’s figure of king and statesman is commemorated in many ways, but nowhere else are the celebrations of the figure of the “Stupor Mundi” so intense and original. It is precisely in the lands of the Vulture that Federico II found the perfect environment to exercise his greatest passion, falconry, that is, the art of training hawks for recreational purposes and to hunt other animals. This practice is truly evocative, and all the more impressive to travellers when they are confronted with dozens and dozens of falconers gathered in place as striking as the town of Melfi. There is no doubt that Frederick II would also have attended the gathering in these lands he loved so much.
