The Festival of the Redeemer is the annual gathering dedicated to faith and folklore for the entire province of Nuoro. For this event, thousands of Sardinians in traditional dress arrive in the capital of the Barbagia area. The absolute centrepieces are the traditional dresses of the Barbagia, elegant like those from Nuoro, colourful and mysterious like those from Orgosolo. The Redeemer is an unmissable opportunity to admire the richness of Sardinian craftsmanship, which is reflected in the beautiful filigree jewellery, the leather belts worn by the men and the horses’ harnesses. The procession of the extras is followed by an immense throng of knights that escort it to the statue of the Redeemer, the great bronze monument created in 1900 by the Calabrian sculptor Vincenzo Jerace, and which has since overlooked the city of Nuoro from the peak of Mount Ortobene. From here one can admire an endless view that embraces the highest mountains of the island.
