Venice

Immediately upon arrival at your destination you will be captivated by the wonderful scenes of gondolas, canals, narrow streets and masks. Welcome to Venice, the historic capital of the Repubblica Serenissima, the main city in the Veneto region and the province of Venice, and one of the most famous and visited cities in the world. Proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage in 1987, the city stands on the Venetian lagoon and is truly unique thanks to its unusual conformation. It is divided into six neighbourhoods, known as “sestieri”: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Marco, San Polo and Santa Croce, and occupies more than one hundred islands. However, the most interesting fact is that Venice was always isolated from the mainland until the first railway bridge was built in 1841. Crossing the many characteristic bridges, such as the Rialto, will take you past numerous churches, ancient palaces like the ducal palace, and fascinating museums, including the Peggy Guggenheim. Don’t miss the city’s famous “campi”, that is to say its typical squares, such as St Mark’s Square with its renowned basilica and imposing bell tower. Packed with history and legends, the city is also famous for its particularly romantic atmosphere, its cultural traditions and its food and wine. Come and explore the wine bars and alleys of one of the world’s most magical cities!
