South Tyrol

South Tyrol is a magical place where different cultures live side by side. Bolzano, the region’s beating heart, is waiting to be explored: distinctive medieval porticoes, Via Bottai with its wrought-iron signs, the colourful market in Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Walther, centre of the city’s social life. There are numerous museums to be visited, where you can learn about local customs and traditions and meet our illustrious ancestor, Ötzi the iceman. Three cable cars link Bolzano with the surrounding highlands, where you can marvel at fiery sunsets over the Dolomites, impossible to forget. Hundreds of kilometres of routes around the city are ideal for walking or cycling. You’ll experience the spectacular nature of the Tre Cime Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, transformed in winter to busy ski slopes. Unique Christmas markets and exquisite, fragrant cuisine to dream of, with sweets like Zelten di Bolzano and iconic wines such as Lagrein and Santa Maddalena.
