Think of the Riviera Romagnola and what comes to mind straight away is place where “fun” is the watchword.
Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, Milano Marittima, Cesenatico: during summer, these places are really unrivalled for groups of friends and couples who want to spend their evenings in a club, dancing to remixes by Europe’s best DJs, who are to be found manning the decks of the Riviera Romagnola during the high season.
But the Riviera Romagnola also offers plenty of fun for youngsters, with numerous facilities available on the beaches, including playparks and sports equipment. And then there are the theme parks, such as Italy in Miniature, and the waterparks, such as Aquafan in Riccione, where adults and children can enjoy a carefree, adrenaline-fuelled day.
But this destination also has a lot to offer culture vultures: the historical centre of Rimini, for example, will surprise you with its Ancient Roman monuments (Arch of Augustus and Bridge of Tiberius), as well as its buildings dating from the Middle Ages (such as the Palazzo dell’Arengo and the Palazzo del Podestà) and its Renaissance architecture (such as Sismondo Castle and the Malatesta Temple).
Also unmissable is a visit to San Marino, which is one of the most ancient republics anywhere in the world, with its nine castles and its magical Mediaeval atmosphere.
