Riviera dei Fiori

Poet Eugenio Montale extolled the beauty of the Riviera dei Fiori, the western stretch of the Ligurian coast that includes the province of Imperia up to Ventimiglia, on the border with France, with its large sandy beaches, alternating with hills that end in steep cliffs as they reach the sea. Sanremo is a wonderful city, famed for the Italian Song Festival that is staged at the Teatro Ariston. It has its own Casino and buildings of great artistic value. Small and beautiful sea resorts boasting crystal-clear waters, such as San Lorenzo al Mare, Diano Marina and Arma di Taggia, are immersed in greenery, in particular olive and citrus groves. Further inland there are many beautiful towns and villages: Dolceacqua, with its magnificent Doria Castle; Apricale and Triora, two of Italy’s most beautiful villages. With a climate that is always mild and pleasant, the fragrance of flowers and good local cooking, a cycle and pedestrian path extending for 24 km, leading to villages and beaches, this destination makes for a perfect “slow” holiday.
