Val d’Orcia looks like a painting: rolling hills coloured yellow to green, rows of vineyards, stone farmhouses, narrow streets bordered by elegant and tidy cypresses. Castiglione d’Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani, San Quirico d’Orcia and Sarteano are the six splendid towns that make up the Val d’Orcia. Land of magical waters, with the wonderful Terme di Chianciano and Bagno Vignoni, which refreshed the pilgrims along Via Francigena, and Bagni San Filippo, praised since Etruscan times.
Land of fine wines, with the famous Brunello di Montalcino Docg and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Unique delicacies such as Pienza’s pecorino, Val d’Orcia’s honey, Castiglione d’Orcia’s extra virgin olive oil, and Siena’s cured meats. Then there are the mushrooms and truffles, which highlight how food and wine are the strengths of this area.
The Artistic, natural and cultural park of Val d’Orcia has inspired Renaissance painters of the Sienese school and has been declared a World Heritage site by Unesco.
