Also known as the Valley of the Trulli, this part of Puglia extends into the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. Magic is in the air here and every village seems to shine with its own light, enshrined in a unique, fairy-tale atmosphere, perhaps because of the predominant colour white, the unusual dwellings or the luxuriant vegetation springing up everywhere.
Alberobello is a world-famous destination, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996, thanks to its unique trulli. Cisternino and Locorotondo are two delightful little settlements, considered to be among the most beautiful villages in Italy, while Ostuni offers exceptional glimpses of the sea and particularly interesting whitewashed buildings. Martina Franca also has a stunning historic centre in the Baroque style, as well as a fascinating maze of streets and dead ends. These villages are set amidst an area of age-old olive groves, karst caves and breathtakingly beautiful and clean sea beds.
