Cosenza & Sila

The area in and around Cosenza and the Sila highlands is a mosaic of fascinating sites, stunning landscapes and rewarding itineraries that lead the visitor through thousands of years of history and untamed nature to the blue waters of the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia and the picturesque rocky seafront of Coreca.

If there is a desire among the people of Calabria to take a modern, forward-thinking approach to the future, without losing sight of the traditions and memories of the past – indeed using its history as the foundation on which to build a dynamic, creative environment as vibrant as any in the south of Italy, if not further afield – then the city of Cosenza, with its youthful, cultured vitality, is surely one of the region’s guiding lights.

Among the area’s smaller settlements, the old hillside town of Cleto – with its historic castle and stunning views of the Aeolian Islands – is well worth a visit, as is the town of Rende, with its modern Museum of 19th and 20th-Century Art.

Like a giant green lung, the Sila National Park has been shown to have the cleanest air in Europe. It also offers some stunning scenery, which is particularly suited to active pursuits such as trekking, skiing, and canyoning along its rivers and streams.
