Visit the winery of the Counts of Serego Alighieri in Valpolicella with a tasting of Valpolicella Monte Piazzo, Amarone Vaio Armaron and Recioto Casal dei Ronchi. During his exile, Dante Alighieri spent a few years living in Verona. His son Pietro, enchanted by the beauty of the city and its surrounding countryside, decided to stay nearby; in 1353, he purchased a farmland in Gargagnago, in the center of Valpolicella, home to the Casal dei Ronchi. The house and land today, after twenty-one generations, still belong to the Counts of Serego Alighieri, direct descendants of the poet Dante. Since 1973, the Counts have collaborated with the nearby Masi Agricola, a leading winery in the production of Amarone, to produce prestigious, top-quality wines. The Villa, immersed in the vineyards of Valpolicella, exists in conjunction with the traditional activity of the vast and flourishing farmland. Your tour, a dive into the history of the noble family of the Counts of Serego Alighieri and the territory of Valpolicella, includes a guided walk in the garden and the vineyards and a visit to the historic winery full of aromatic cherry casks as are traditionally used by the family for the "appassimento" of the grapes. Your visit will conclude with a tasting session including three esteemed wines: Valpolicella Monte Piazzo, Amarone Vaio Armaron and Recioto Casal dei Ronchi.
